Full on into the New Year

First post of the new year!  A bit late since its the 20th of January. Its amazing how quickly time can get away from you.  To say its been busy is an understatement!
I had taken a break from teaching over the holidays and couldn't have been happier to be back teaching in the new year.  

Along with my regular classes I have also started teaching the staff at the Sundre Hospital.  I couldn't be happier!  So often the people that care for us do the least to care for themselves.  Sundre is no exception to this rule, although things are changing.  Adding yoga to keep the body strong and healthy, meditation and savasana for the mind to give us awareness, calmness of our thoughts, is just what is needed in a facility that quite often isn't known for its tranquil atmosphere.    

I've started back on a second cleanse, still following Kris Carr's book Crazy Sexy Diet.  After diving off the wagon of good eating to gorge myself during the holidays I needed to remove the brick (or what felt like) from my guts!  Once upon a time I could eat what ever I wanted and never really noticed the effects poor diet had on my body.  That just isn't the case anymore.      

There has been a definite shift in my way of thinking towards this 'diet' to a normal way to eat.  I just feel so good when I eliminate gluten, dairy, and animal products!  As I was filling my face with cookies, chocolates, breads, cheese and all those tasty things what I found is my anxiety increased and my brain just didn't want to hold a thought!  I would contribute to a conversation and constantly forget what I was talking about, or just have an incredibly frustrating time getting the words out of my mouth!  It was awful!    

Is this saying I will become a vegan?  That I can't answer you.  At the moment though I have no desire to change back to eating what we consider a 'normal' western diet, most of which contributes to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and strokes just to name a few.  

And please, don't take my word on it!  Become curious and do some research.  We retain information so much better when we do the legwork ourselves.  
You are living in the only body you'll ever have!  Do you want to live a full healthy life, or do you want to slowly die for the rest of your life?  We all have the choice.

That being said we weigh our choices during different situations, Christmas being one of them for me.  I come from several different back grounds (Canadian Mutt) but embracing my Ukrainian side the most. 

What does that mean for the holidays?  

Well, let me tell you, perogies, cabbage rolls, creamy sauces, crepes filled with cottage cheese, dill, bacon, breads, oh my!!!!
This food is delicious!  It is also filled with tons of gluten, dairy, animal fats, you name it!  

Our bodies have to produce an incredible amount of acid to break down this type of food causing heartburn, gas, and bloating.  All of those wonderful things that is not conducive to being in a group of people socializing.  Heaven forbid someone bumps into you and you let go like a balloon!!

Not sure how many more invites you will get if you keep clearing the room! 
My juicer is calling!  Many more exciting this to write about very soon!
