Tis the Season!

Tis the season all right!

The season of candy, treats, heavy meals, gas, bloating, headaches, and all the side effects of a poor diet has to offer.
More than just becoming over weight, tired and irritable new research has uncovered that in fact our digestive tract contains more than 100 million neurons, more than our spinal cord or our peripheral nervous system. (see link below)

So, not only does our guts work at digesting our food, but the quality of that food sends direct messages to our brain altering our thought patterns and moods.  How HUGE is that???

I have always been a strong believer in what you put into your body is all you can expect to get out of it.  If your diet consists of processed foods, alcohol, sugar, and chemicals what sorts of thought will be moving through your mind.  Become aware of how your thoughts change after you have a meal.  Awareness is the first step to changing how we move through our lives.

Saying all of this I constantly find myself trying to find balance within my diet.  For the most part I feel I do a pretty good job.  The things that alter my balance tend to be vacations and ignoring the signals my body is telling me.  Its a constant challenge.

Summer vacations, starting at the beginning of July, followed by camping with friends, followed by another vacation, more camping, a trip to the east coast and what you have is balance swaying drastically in the wrong direction!

To change this I am embarking on a 21 day food cleanse. Three weeks to create incredibly positive changes within my body instead of entering into another season of bad habits.  I will post regularly to keep everyone updated, as well to keep myself accountable. (yes, sad but true)

Basically what I will be doing is removing all alcohol, processed foods, gluten, dairy and meat from my diet.  Some great guidelines for this type of eating can be found in a couple of books that I refer to often.  The first one is Crazy Sexy Diet by Kris Carr  and the second one is The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder.

Kris Carr has a very interesting story as to why she embarked on this type of eating which was to control a cancer found in her body at the age of 31.  There was no treatment, no cure for it.  She is 10 years past her diagnose and healthier than ever.  Very inspiring!

Cleanse for me starts Monday October 29th, 2012
